The LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender) society exists to provide a safe space for LGBT students to meet, have fun, and support one another. Getting involved with the LGBT Society can be an important first step for students who are thinking about coming out. The society is always open to new ideas about how we can make life easier for LGBT students and increase awareness and tolerance in the wider student body. The main emphasis of the society is on matters social. We organize a variety of social events and are involved in social activities with ‘Out in UL’ – the University of Limerick LGBT Society. Meetings are often held on campus, in a safe and friendly environment, in order to respect the fact that not all members are ready to ‘come out’. The society assures anonymity and does not engage in ‘outing’ any members. We in Mary I SU LGBT think it’s particularly important to be accessible and welcoming and we aim to make it as easy as possible to get involved in the society. We all understand how difficult it is if you are not sure/not out/or just out - we’ve all been there! –so, don’t be afraid to get in touch....you won’t regret it.
