To the delight of us girly girls, Mary I Students Union had an amazing idea of having a fashion week.
I was recently really annoyed by a Facebook comment on the Fashion Week asking for more male orientated events in a college where literally about 2% of students in Mary I are male.
Men have it so easy. Why shouldn’t they have to endure the pain of waxing, high heels and eyelash glue getting into their eye? Why is it all they have to do when going out is pick a shirt out of the wardrobe and put a little gel in their hair. It is massively annoying when preparing for a birthday party. Men tell the boys to meet in a pub and hey presto there’s a party. Women on the other hand, browse a selection of venues, pick a food menu with options that will cater to all the guests and arrange a time and transportation. That’s before we find a dress that’s in fashion, matching shoes, a jacket, book a hair and make-up appointment, get our eyebrows done, apply fake tan and eyelashes, choose a going out bag and then finally get to go to the party.
It is of little wonder that all my male friends manage to keep hold of their money and mine disappears so quickly. Nevertheless, I will be fighting to the death for Benefit and Mac make-up I don’t actually need on Thursday (on sale in the Lounge).
The last time I checked, pleasing the majority was not sexist.
And, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, can us girls please get a little recognition of all our effort?
