BA Media & Communications Studies & English,
2006 - 2010
Lisa talks about the advantages of having an MIC degree in Media & English and what she's gained from it.
There only giving me two hundred words to talk about my time in Mary I??! yeesh!! Well… Having completed my B.A in English and Media I couldn’t be happier with my choice in Mary I. Both the English and Media Departments were fantastic supports. In particular, to students thinking about taking Media, Mary I’s Media department has fantastic staff and resources and is well recognised in the field.
In my final year I was encouraged by the media department to enter national media competitions and was successful in being short listed for TV Production of the year for my FYP and winning a category in a drink awareness competition. I have also been lucky enough to get into the commercial radio station Spin South West, this being a direct result of my co-op experience and time in Wired FM, a gem in Mary I for anyone into radio!
My study at Frostburg State University in my Co-op year, was also an opportunity I will never forget, but also never stop appreciating!
Finally as a media head I can tell you that all the bad press Limerick gets is just to sell papers, it is a tragic reflection on a fantastic city. I am now finished college but settled in Limerick, and sadly still calling into Mary I regularly, the withdrawal period is tough!!!
Laugh now, but after three/four years you will have the same complaint!
