Siobhan talks about the life of a B.Ed & Psych student in MIC.
I entered into the four year Bachelor of Education in Education & Psychology course in Mary Immaculate College in 2005 and qualified last year. Having just completed my first full year of teaching and being asked to write this article I can think of nothing better than to sit back and reminisce about the four fantastic years I spent in Mary I.
The four year course proved to be the best choice I ever made. We were placed in a smaller cohort than the other B-Ed’s and we quickly became a tight knit group who all knew one another. We worked alongside the B-Ed students on a daily basis as well as the Arts students who were completing psychology. The B-Ed course proved to be both challenging yet interesting and the Psychology course strove to widen our minds and begin to make us think of even the most mundane things in a whole new light. Without a doubt one is as beneficial as the other when working in the classroom. Additionally the extra year in college and the qualification in Psychology leaves many doors open for me for the future such as the option to continue with studies in the area of Educational Psychology.
Mary I’s college lifestyle is one of a kind. The friendly and sociable atmosphere which you get from everybody within the grounds is just immense. A small community of people all with similar goals and aspirations for their future. The college provides opportunities in all areas from Sports clubs to Drama societies and from Quiz nights to Club nights. A choice in every corner and a new friendly face to meet along the way. It certainly was the right choice for me and one of the best experiences I went through. Here’s hoping that it will be best remembered for many more years to come, among those I met and who went through it with me. Best of luck with your future choices, if you do end up in Mary I, I hope it’s as incredible a journey as I had.
