Welfare and Equality Update

Hey everybody!

It’s week five, and if you’ve seen us around college you’ll probably see us seriously stressing over the FYP . Yep it’s getting hectic around college with presentations, assignments, essays, and teaching practice for the first years. But don’t worry, you’ll be fine, and remember there are loads of activities going on in college to help you to de-stress.

Xmas Time, Misetoe and Stuff!

Hello All,

Niamh & Denis here for our last blog of the semester.

Hopefully all exams/placement are going well. For those of you who are already on holidays…(evil jealous glare). The end of semester one is almost upon us, and what a semester it has been!  The first years and Erasmus students have settled in by now and thoroughly enjoying the college experience (we hope).

So far this semester we have achieved two of our main goals; we have highlighted and promoted pleasetalk.ie in and around the college and we have re-established the LGBT society. These goals go hand in hand with helping out with all other MISU events and appeals. Final Year Projects and Teaching Practice have kept us off campus for the majority of the semester, but plans for next semester are already underway! Watch out for Welfare & Equality Sexual Health Awareness & Guidance week; ‘W.E. S.H.A.G. Week 2011’. If you have any ideas or suggestions send them our way and we will see what we can do.

Exam time can be a stressful time for many people, if you are worried or anxious, talk to someone about it. A problem shared is a problem halved. Remember that talking is a sign of strength not weakness. There is a huge amount of uncertainty surrounding teaching practice appeals; to counter this MISU in consultation with the TP department will be posting a guide to TP Appeals on moodle. This guide should be available when TP grades are awarded at the start of semester 2.

We hope Santa calls to everyone, and enjoy the snow we are expected to get!
