Hello everyone!
Noel here, your MISU Vice Prez/Education Officer for this year!
Sorry for the delay in posting my first blog. As you can imagine, it has a been crazy couple of weeks, between Orientation Week and Freshers' Week and just the general madness of the start of the College Year which comes with the first few weeks.
Just to clarify what the Education Officer does, as there is a bit of confusion out there! I deal with all academic issues, not just academic issues in relation to Bachelor of Education. It includes Arts, ECCEs, B.Eds, B.Ed & Psychs, as well as Post Grads in all areas, as well as any Diploma students.
Moving on though... I hope you had a great Freshers' Week anyway, thanks to everyone who turned out for the MISU events over the week. There was a great mix of events and it seems to have gone well!
An important thing to remember in relation to entertainments in Mary I is that when MISU organises an event, the more people who attend, the more tickets that are sold, the more money we will have for organising HOT Week next semester (RAG Week). If people don't go to events that we organise, than we won't be able to organise a decent HOT Week as we won't have the funds. To be honest with you, if our events aren't supported by you, the student body, than you won't have a good HOT Week, simple as. Sorry to be pessimistic about it but I'm just being honest about it, no point lying to you.
On a different note, there's still time to sign up to be a class rep, just pop in to the SU and ask for a Class Rep form. All you need is 25 signatures and it's a great way to have your say in the running of the SU itself. The class reps meet every second Wednesday at 6pm so the first meeting will be next week (Week 3).
Make sure you log on to misu.ie, friend us on Facebook or follow us on twitter to keep up to date with all that's going on in Mary I, as well as pics, ents events. We updated the webstie over the summer and some it still needs to be fixed but it should be done in the next week or so.
You can now also register for the MISUpdate newsletter here on the site which will let you know what we're up to. We'll be sending this out about once every two weeks.
Finally, for the moment, if you have a problem with any aspect of your life in Mary I, let Mairead or myself know. If we don't know about your problem, we can't help you. We sit on over 20 committees in Mary I, we will be able to help you out, or if not, point you in the right direction.
We're there for you, to help you through life in MIC, use us!
Cheers!
Noel
PS. It's called My Second First Hello as I had to write one of these last year so here I am writing one again, for a second time.
